The Pelorus Mail Boat is located at Pier B, Havelock Marina, Havelock. Our check-in office is just a short walk from Havelock’s town centre and State Highway 6.
The Mail Boat cruise explores the remote reaches of the Marlborough Sounds' Pelorus Sound/Te Hoiere as well as Kenepuru Sound.
Getting here
Havelock is located in New Zealand at the top of the South Island, in the Marlborough Sounds. On the main highway between Blenheim, Picton and Nelson, Havelock is very easy to get to.
By road
Havelock is located on State Highway 6 between Blenheim and Nelson and is easily reached by car. A number of bus services operate between Picton, Blenheim and Nelson and stop in Havelock’s town centre.
Travel times by car:
- Picton to Havelock – 40 minutes (via Queen Charlotte Drive)
- Blenheim to Havelock – 40 minutes
- Nelson to Havelock – 1 hour
By sea
Passenger ferries travel between Wellington and Picton depart several times daily. The journey takes approximately 3 hours, via the Marlborough Sounds. Bus services from Picton to Nelson via Havelock depart from the Interislander ferry terminal.
By air
Marlborough Airport near Blenheim is a short 20-minute flight from Wellington, 50 minutes from Christchurch or 1.5 hours from Auckland. Picton Airport (Sounds Air only) is a 10 minute drive from Picton and 50 minute drive from Havelock.
Nelson Airport is a 1.5 hour flight from Auckland, 40 minute flight from Wellington and 1 hour from Christchurch.
